About the Institute
Too often, the life-saving insights within NIOSH Line-of-Duty Death and near-miss investigations remain buried in dense, highly technical reports that are difficult to unpack after a long shift. I founded the North American Mayday Institute (NAMI) to bridge the gap between formal investigations and everyday fireground application. By translating these complex reports into engaging podcasts, video analyses, and candid tactical debriefs, NAMI's mission is to bring this vital information straight to the kitchen table and the training ground, thus ensuring the lessons of our industry's most critical incidents are honored, remembered, and put into practice by firefighters and officers on the line.
Why? As an ex-volunteer firefighter, soldier, and now a career firefighter, “Brotherhood” is a word that means a lot to me. I almost lost a brother in a mayday incident while he was battling a multi-story blaze.
This platform is a passion project built by a firefighter, for firefighters. I personally cover all hosting and maintenance fees out of my own pocket to ensure this site remains a 100% free resource, forever. Your department should never have to weigh budget constraints against the safety of its crew.
Let’s make sure everyone goes home.
Let’s Work Together
Advancing fireground safety is a collective effort. I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with departments, instructors, creators, and firefighters across the industry.
